​Jethro Longwe is a Malawian visual storyteller whose paintings radiate warmth, joy, and a deep connection to everyday life. Through vibrant color and expressive brushwork, his work captures both the simplicity and depth of moments that shape community, memory, and belonging.

His distinctive style balances tranquility with movement, inviting viewers into narratives that celebrate the beauty and resilience of ordinary life. Drawing inspiration from shared experiences, play, and scenes of togetherness, Longwe’s paintings reflect the heart of Malawian culture while speaking to universal human experiences.

Initially self-taught, Longwe formally refined his practice at the University of Malawi, earning a degree in Fine Art in 2009. He later continued his studies at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town, where he was awarded two full academic scholarships. Committed to ongoing growth, he is currently furthering his practice through continuing education at the University of Cape Town, deepening both his conceptual and material exploration.

This strong foundation has supported a celebrated career, with his work featured in numerous exhibitions, including Identity (Woodstock Gallery, 2018), The Collective (Gallery Momo, 2019), and the State of the Art Gallery Open Exhibition (2020). More recently, he has exhibited at Art in the Park (2021, 2023) and in The Simple Things (Kaza Kitchen, 2023). In 2023, his work was also selected for the Art in Embassies exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe.

Grounded in a community-centered and research-driven approach, Longwe’s art serves as a bridge between cultural memory and contemporary expression. His work continues to explore themes of connection, presence, and shared humanity; offering a quiet but powerful celebration of life’s everyday moments.
